Although there are many topics on which you can blog and believe me, every topic will make you good money if you are aiming for money. Honestly, almost everyone who starts to blog making their own site has some intentions to make money through it as well, of course there would be exception here and there. But when you are going to start a new blog, make sure it is micro-niched blog and aimed for a specific group of people. This will be liked by those targeted visitors of yours.
There are many points need to be considered before you actually start blogging. If you know about blogging and making money online, Adsense comes first in the mind of any newbie who is about to start a blog or just started. With Google Adsense comes the thought of creating a blog of the niche which can get you more CPC, cost per click.
So what is CPC and why people consider this?
In very short, Cost per click, CPC is the amount of money paid to you by Google for each click you get on the ads places on your website by Google Adsense.
With such advertising companies like Google, you can have two accounts – publishers and advertisers.
Advertisers are those who pay to Google to advertise their business online.
Publishers show the ads by advertisers on their websites to drive the traffic to the advertisers’ site. By doing so, Google shares the earnings with the publisher that is being paid by the advertisers.
Does value of CPC depend on topic or niche?
The answer is yes and no.
Let’s think about this – What Google wants to do with it’s search engine? What this Google search is and for whom this is built?
Yes, this is for the users just like you and me who are searching for some information or data. People use Google the most because it provides the best relevant answers to the question.
People tried to spam Google by playing with it’s algorithm and when Google found that, several such sites including those who were unaware what wrong they did got the penalty. Never try to spam users or search engines. Do the best for your users. Spamming internet will not help.
Getting back to the question, If I have been searching for best blogging platforms, there are chances many business owners are already posting ads using that keywords and if I visit your blog, I might find the related ads on your blog.
Say now I have been looking to buy a phone online with few features and I landed up to some eCommerce site. I visited few times to Google to search for the phone but at some point, I revisited your site to get more blogging information as well. What ads I will see on your blog? About blogging platform? No, I will see totally irrelevant ads to the content of your blog and it will be related to buying a phone which I might even had ordered.
This method is called re-targeting. I will call it spooking in some sense. Next I visits a site about playing games online and all I will see is ads about buying phones through some ecommerce site. It will keep following me.
So yes, it may affect what your blog is about but it won’t affect much either. What ads are going to be displayed are mostly gonna depend on Google itself.
In Google Adsense portal, you can change the setting to block specific advertisements that might be irrelevant but Google does own right of not showing ads on your page in case there is nothing relevant they can show.
Now the question arises if we should seek high CPC topics before even getting into blogging?
I will say yes and no, again.
You may will be able to write few posts from some places about that topic from where you are expecting high CPC but in long run, you will end up with your knowledge or may loose interest in writing further because of shortage of knowledge on that topic and lack of interest on that niche.
So the best solution would be to write on the topic of your interest pick a topic on which you can write endlessly. In fact, choose the topic for which you have already written or about to write at least 50 articles.
Wait, how would I get more money from that topic if it is of my interest but falls in low CPC niche?
This is fairly good question but as I said above, you never know what kind of ads are going to be displayed on your website and you have little to no control over it. The best you can do is writing in favor and best interest of your users. More the visitors, more the money is.
In fact, I wouldn’t worry much on making money but more about the people who come and visit my website. I would rather offer them the best possible information, accurate and complete that they trust me with my knowledge and information. I would rather like to help people out.
In fact, people are offering free WordPress installation service online given you buy the hosting and domain using their affiliate link but I would rather do it without asking anything in return. I am not saying they take money from you, the companies pay them and if you would like me to make money with my affiliate link in case you haven’t purchased a domain and hosting yet, I would be very happy, after all, who doesn’t want money.
Being said that, I must also state the fact that people are making more money through affiliate marketing than Google Adsense or any other ads network. Affiliate marketing always pay you much better than any ads program.
Affiliate Marketing Challenges
Indeed there are advantages of affiliate marketing, the best would be the money made through one sale is comparatively huge. But with this, there is a huge shortcoming is that you don’t get paid for any click view, you get paid only when you get the sales done. You could get hundred clicks on an ad but getting a lead, a sale is challenging. If you were getting say one click from 20 views which makes your click through rate, CTR as 5%, you need much more pageviews for sale to be completed.
To make a sale successful, you need to build a loyal audience, you need to prove that you are expert and know what you are talking about. There are not just few things that you need to do to be successful but there are several things you need to focus on.
Sure there are several challenges when it comes to choosing a niche but I would suggest you to choose a very specific niche and keep writing on it.
For an example, Searchengineland specifically writes about Search Engine news, at Backlinko, Brian Dean writes only about creating backlinks. Choose what you love to write about and you will gradually see that you are doing more than awesome.
Again, picking a blogging topic is not an easy task but if done rightly, I am very sure you can go way ahead.
Good luck with blogging 🙂
